Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great DVR for the Money Night Owl DVR are super great DVR reasonable price long lasting,for a 1080P DVR the recording are clear pictures on the Play Back ,the Police got a Mugshot of the one that broke in my Truck and was able to Identify that Low Live individual , by day end I got my tools back ,,,I do recommend this DVR and all other Night Owl Poduct this is my 3rd DVR from Night Owl , with this 16 Channel 1080p Bluetooth DVR I will be able to had 4 more Wi-Fi Cameras to the system . Not only this is a Great DVR but cannot forget Customer Service that always got my back on issue that I could not resolved ,,,also I got what I paid for great quality DVR and Cameras

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so great features I have this equipment for 3 weeks now and there are some features to improve: definitely the App; besides not so user friendly it doesn’t respond fast enough when want to have access for a quick view or to check a sensor alert. Also I have to close it totally very often to make it respond and load the cameras. The other not so good features are the cameras speakers and the siren. Those aren’t good quality and hard to understand the prerecorded message or when having a conversation by the two way audio cameras. On the other hand, the good things it has are the good quality video of the cameras and the no need to have a tv or monitor connected to set up the system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing quality. We live in an area with a lot of wild animals and often they get into the garbage or even cause other kinds of damage. Finally, I can keep alerted of the cameras pick up any movement. The best part is that I can be sent a real time alert, that also has built in spotlights and scare off the critters. The quality is smashing, clear picture and such a huge convenience to the house. I was even fortunate enough to catch someone trying to steal a package off my porch. They saw the cameras and put the package back on the porch, it was awesome! I highly recommend this for anyone needing a little extra security. I plan on buying this for my dad for Christmas.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality overall Absolutely the worst cameras you can ever buy less then 90 days water getting in the cameras and they will not warrant it . Tech support is always in a rush to get off the phone if they will ever answer your call and there 30 days return policy sucks I will never buy these cameras again in my life. If its raining and snowing the cams will send you notifications all day long it can't tell the difference people or rain. The cameras are definitely not weather resistant less then 30 days i have moisture in the lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing 4K security system I totally am in love with this night owl 4K security system. I got tired of relying on my internet connection to be able to save and stream my properties video feed. This is all on a 1TB hard drive and honestly it’s a very easy setup. Everything is wired. Each camera comes with ample length to run a connection to different areas of your house or property. So far the Apple app it pretty good. I have very fast internet so my stream is perfect remotely. I love the clarity and the spot light motion sensor. It makes getting a clear shot at night easy. So far I am loving this system and might upgrade for other cameras.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Initial thoughts Once the unit arrived, I changed out my existing cameras (unit not compatible with previous Night Owl AHD-10 unit) and tried to download the Night Owl Connect app. The app indicated that it was not available for my phone). I preceded to set up the unit manually with no major problems. The pictures are clear but there are several problems that I wish the Night Owl rep would have told me before I purchased it. 1. The unit is only compatible with a 1080p or 4k tv (or monitor). This required me to purchase a new tv to be able to set up the unit. Additional cost incurred - $240 2. The Night Owl connect app will not work with an Android Version earlier than 8.0. I'm going to have to purchase a new phone as my existing phone cannot be upgrade to Android 8.0. Still pricing new phone but expect an additional cost of $200-$400. 3. Remote viewing on my computer can only be set up with the Connect app. 4. No software is available to set up remote viewing on a computer. While I would recommend this unit to a friend, I would also tell them about the issues listed above.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awesome Camera system, not so awesome software. The cameras and hardware are amazing, the software was daunting. The process of using a mouse to sign into my new account was impossible. after creating my new account I kept getting an error saying incorrect login info. I called, tech said the problem was my password contained special characters, advised to create a new password with no spec characters. I tried changing my password and got an error basically saying special characters were required. It took an hour of waiting on hold and talking to a tech that barely spoke english to get it working.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Video, App needs work These were an upgrade to an older Night Owl System so installation was a breeze as basically I just changed the cameras and the DVR. The video is nice and the ability to do human vs vehicle vs face detection is very helpful at cutting down false alerts that you used to get from the "pixel change" motion alerts of the older systems. My biggest gripe with this product is the app. It's slow to load, and some of the features for iOS don't work. -For example the do not disturb function is hit or miss as I set a time only to fin out that it does not work. -There is no snooze function for motion, so you have to turn off notifications if you are going to be in an area outside for a while, be prepared to be constantly bombarded with notifications. -The sound warnings, while effective are all or nothing. They constantly go off when motion is around and repeat the same phrase over and over. Would be nice to have a chirp option that let's someone know there are cameras but does not constantly shout out Smile you are are being recorded. -It would also be nice if there was greater integration into the smart home universe. For example, IFTTT integration would be amazing such that you could trigger lights to come on inside the home if a human is detected, etc. None of that is possible currently.

I understand you won't be able to use the app without wifi but can you still view the cameras through a monitor without a router?

Yes. Connecting to the Internet is for remote viewing and automatic software updates. If you do not connect to the Internet, check your device's support page for updates and directions for the manual installation of the software.

I have the 3.0 system now and was wondering if with the up grade if I could use the cables that the 3.0 cameras are hooked up to.Or do I have to run new cables through my roof again thinking of up grading to the 8 Channel 1080p Bluetooth DVR.
