Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product is Amazing!! Esp. for the price Purchased this unit at BJ's and planned the install myself. This is a DIY install assuming you have everything in place. I took my time over two days to make sure everything was right so I could minimize the time spent going up and down ladders in the attic and outside when mounting the cameras and adjusting them. I had to run a ethernet cable in order to hook the DVR up to the network. In terms of the system it's self, everything works as described, the only difficult part was configuring email notifications other than that, the install, and configuring of the system on a mobile device was simple. I do wish Nightowl included the manual vs. having to locate the model system and look up the manual online but for the price of this unit and the peace of mind it's giving me - whats' a little research... Turns out, if you are going to use gmail as your notification sender, you will have to adjust your security settings in your account to allow less secure generic systems to access your email account. Once you allow this, the email feature of the DVR works like a champ! For the price $250, you can't beat all of the features this unit has to offer, not to mention the quality of the cameras. Vivant home security wanted to charge me $400 for 1 camera! Now I am just asking myself, why pay my alarm company 60/month when I have my own stand alone system now that when compared only lacks police dispatch and remote unlocking of a door.............Hummmmm drop my alarm company and save 60/month - gotta think about this now!

The hookup and connection was fast and easy, I connected to the tv and my cell with no issues but had a problem connecting my Mac laptop ( the required download was not on the website). I called tech support and they had me connected in less than 20 minutes.

The picture quality is very clear and so many options in the settings that I did not expect to see or even think of. I'm very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this product to anyone looking to buy a system that is great quality & simple to use with tons of options.

How to update the firewall manually?

What's the biggest hard drive I can install in my she

Hello Bob, Great Question. Night Owl's DVRs/NVRs can accommodate up to a 6TB hard drive. Our DVRs are compatible with internal SATA HDD's, 2.5" or 3.5". The HDD should have a minimum of 7200 RPM. Our DVR does not have a reset button. However, you can log into the DVR and restore to Factory Default from the Maintenance Menu. If you are having trouble logging into the DVR, please contact our tech support team at 1-866-390-1303 (Option 4). Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

why are all the 8 camera 1080 DVRs "out of stock?" the 8 camera is available at Sam's Club. is this old technology and replaced by the M3?

The 1080p DVRs are being phased out. And yes, the X3 Series DVRs can act as a replacement. They use a different App, but accommodate the same cameras plus our XHD 3MP cameras. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

Is my HDA10 Series capable to connect from any where? im having trouble connecting from work

Yes, if the DVR is connected to a working modem/router, you should be able to view your system from anywhere. Oftentimes customers have an issue if there Internet connection speed is too slow.
