Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eyes In The Sky I have no regrets purchasing the DVR-8 system for my home! I wanted a large storage capacity, I got it with the 1 TB DVR. I hoped for easy setup, It's as easy as 1-2-3. What I didn't expect was the quality of video and how fluid the motion is on the live feed, even with my smart phone and tablet interface. I'm also impressed with the play back feature for each camera with my mobile devices, it awesome! I will and already have recommended this system to my friends and neighbors who now want me to install one for them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great system! Easy install. Just recently purchased this system to monitor coming and going in my house. Fairly easy to install. Tech Support, Live Chat and telephone, VERY helpful. Love the motion activated recording and playback feature. Motion "events" marked on log. No need to watch hours of recording to see if any action. Being able to view "Real Time" while away from home on my smartphone is the best. Would have given 5 stars if night vision was better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Dvr!!! Very easy set up. Nice features can play back 1 channel or multiple channels at same time. Just upgraded from the night owl poseidon 8 ch which I loved until it stopped recording. This dvr has much more features. Can't wait to upgrade my cameras to utilize the higher resolution. Hope it lasts longer than the night owl Poseidon. Also has a pretty good mobile app could be better but works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Surveillance System for the price. I am writing this review based on product quality for price. For a surveillance system under $300 this is a great system to choose. I will say that the camera's do lack in quality but still not to bad. Love the fact that I can have an app on my phone to constantly keep an eye on what is going on. Plus it is nice to have email alerts set up to notify me of abnormal activity. Haven't had the need to use support yet so cannot give any feedback there. Over great product for price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, only a few issues I can see I set this unit up for a bar owner friend of mine. To start off with storage space is Excellent, the 1 TB HDD ensures he'll have plenty of storage space. I've setup up some that only have 250 - 500 GB and soon come to realize If you don't extract data immediately after an incident, you loose it due to the overwrite feature. The 4 cameras, while they are not variable focus and only 6 LEDs, they have excellent quality and clarity at long distances and in dim lighting. Record configuration is easy figure with out reading the manual and being able to copy the configuration from one camera to the next makes it a snap to custom set all 8 in 1 fell swoop. The physical size of the unit is great, allowed us to hide the unit in a tight space (Still allowing for adequate ventilation). Record Playback one word, Excellent, I'm able to download recorded video and take snapshot remotely, even from my cell phone via the free OwlDVR HD app. I've installed other brands, Samsung and Everfocus, Zmodo and they just don't compare to this Night Owl, both in price and features. Now the draw backs... 1. Limited DDNS support. DVR only supports Owldvr.com and the application for updating the unit only works on a pc. I registered the domain from home and without being at the bar it won't update via the <test ddns> button in the config menu. keeps telling me "Request ip address failed". Not sure what that means yet. 2. The cameras as stated before these are not variable focus so for close up locations you will lose coverage. Would have been nice to have been able to zoom out to cover the move area. 3. I understand that since this unit came with only 4 cameras it should only come with 1 octopus cable. But would have been nice since it is an 8 channel DVR for it to have come with 2 so i can use 2 power supplies to power my addon cameras. (Not a game stopper) Would be nice if they would address issue 1 above.. All in all, an excellent product. Thanks

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No place can be found about POWER SUPPLYS! So far I have got 1 camera working and the smart phone is also working, that is a good thing! What I have been looking for on the web site and in any instructions is "What power supply goes to what"? You get an 1.5A and a 2A and they tell you not to hook them up to the wrong application.. as it will cause damage.. What I can not find is what one hooks to the Camera's and what one to the DVR! Can we get some clarification here Please?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DVR PURCHASE/RETURN Customer service was excellent. I thought my DVR was broken and I was helped through the process of picking the right one to replaced it. By the time the DVR arrived it turned out the that problem was the power supply on the cameras. Once again customer service stepped up to the plate and helped me with the process of returning the not needed DVR. Thank you so much!

will AHD camera with BNC work with my f6-dr8 system

No. AHD stands for Analog High Definition and is a different technology than standard analog. Our analog DVRs are only compatible with our analog cameras. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

Hooked up system completely plugged it in. It shows night owl on tv then goes black and doesn't do anything. Can you help me with this?

Hi, I put to work my system with 4 cams and this dvr, it worked fine for like 10 months, but two days ago it failed after a thunderstorm with power lost and back. They power feed Is ok with 12.39 VDC, but nothing Is seen or heard in the dvr. Cams are ok.

Sir/Madam: How can I program my system to back up its self at 12:00 o'clock midnight each night. At present I have to manually every 3 days when it stop recording go in and manually go in and restart it. My problem is I'll be out of town for 5days.

Unfortunately, this DVR is not capable of auto backup. By default, the system is set to auto-overwrite old footage when the HDD becomes full. However, you have to manually backup footage to a storage device. If you would like to switch the DVR back to auto-overwrite you simply need to access the HDD menu by logging into the DVR. Ensure auto-overwrite is checked and save your settings. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

Can you hook your night owl cameras to a cable DVR or do u have to have a certain one
