Other than my attic being difficult to navigate, the running of the wires and hooking them up is a piece of cake. I tested the cameras before hand to make sure they would suit my needs. That's why I am giving this 5 stars. However, I wish that the DVR system had a way to hookup wirelessly to my router and to external cameras. Also a better zoom from the DVR and not just playback through the app

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A COMPLETE SOLUTION WITH EXTRAS Installed this system for my dad. Originally thought the infrared cameras would be a nice gimmick .. wrong!!! Don't understand now why you would not want this as standard feature. To find events this becomes extra helpful; over things recorded with motion of wind etc. Was able to quickly find actions of people and animals during the night!!! The system was easy, complete and beyond expectation. Software for phone and PC are professional grade.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Within a month channel 3, has quit. I received this unit somewhere in late January, and channel 3 on the DVR has already gone black. At first I thought it was the camera. Then I read some of your troubleshooting techniques and plug that camera into channel 7 and it worked. I'm afraid I'm going to need a replacement DVR. I only have six cameras at present but I intend to have all eight holdup before I am finished. I am using the old cameras from my Lion 4500 for the other four channels. And I'm afraid I cannot recommend this product until I am able to use All eight channels.

Running the camera wires is the hardest part so if you aren't comfortable with that, this may not be an easy project. Once set up, the app makes the system very easy to access and monitor or play back events.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but one problem. It was fairly easy to set up. The videos look great, but I'm having a problem with the time on the DVR. I change the time to the correct time and save it, but later on the DVR keeps changing the time to three hours ahead of what the time really is. I don't know how to fix this problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Satisfied The Mrs. and I got our system from Home Depot, had it installed via the information on the included installercard and am very happy with the quality of the installation. In addition, the 1080p video looks very good and the wide angles make a tremendous viewing difference.

Why are the cameras not waterproof?

Waterproof means that the item can be submerged under water (up to a specified depth and for a specified duration). Our cameras are not designed to be submerged under water. Instead, they are weatherproof and can withstand moisture and dirt debris. If installed outside, please place under minimal protection of some kind so that they are not overexposed. does the HDA10P-10BU-841-PIR have built in wifi so I can connect the dvr to my router wirelessly?

Your reviews & packaging states Recordings only occur/activated when motion & heat detected simultaneous. I need system to record 24/7 activity regardless. Can I manual setup & can I also backup recordings on flash drive or to DVR & transfer to disc later

I have a 2-storey house and I dont have any awning or soffit where I can fit the cameras in less than 9ft high. The lowest mounting place I have is about 18ft high. Will the infrared/motion sensor still work with this height?

Dear, Customer Your DVR unit and cameras are best positioned in places close to 7ft in height. anything above this height will result in missed recordings and or in other stances missed pushed notifications. Best regards.

What is the default password for the administrator when you first turn on the system?

I purchased the 8 camera system. Can the data be saved to an iCloud account? What stops some one from breaking into your house and just stealing the DVR and all the data? Also, will IR detection work if it is hot, like over 100 degrees?

Our system does not currently have cloud compatibility. This is a feature we are working on and hope to launch next year. We recommend installing the DVR in a concealed location to safeguard it, as opposed to within plain view of an intruder. Yes, as long as the camera is operating within the operating temperature range, all features should work. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

Can the Ethernet connection be hooked up to a wifi extender that has an Ethernet port?

The System says it is PTZ capable, does Night owl sell an HD PTZ camera or is that just up to the consumer to find one that is compatible with this DVR

We do not currently have any compatible PTZ cameras for this system. We hope to launch one by end of year. While we cannot guarantee third party compatibility, generally if the camera is ONVIF compliant and of the same technology, it will function with our DVRs. But this is not a guarantee.
