Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than other Brands I bought this system a few weeks ago and installed it myself. Installation was easy, so was the setup. I chose this system over some others just because of the features that Night Owl had and the others didn't. And for the price that Night Owl had as compared to the other brands. On windy days you might want to turn off the text notification or it will drive you crazy with the motion sensitivity. But as mentioned in other reviews it does use up your cell phone battery pretty quick in the live view mode. The only way you can stop this is go into your app management on your phone and force stop. Then if the app is reopened then it restarts and sucks your battery down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I bought this system after my country home got broken into twice in two months earlier this year. I used the "installernet" option and arranged for someone to meet me out there and get it set up right. There is no ambient light in the back so the camera's don't see as far as I like, but they still see at least 30' out. (I plan on putting some lights up to help the nightvision). I haven't seen anyone prowling around until today, but I have seen lots of deer, rabbits, squirrels, a large raccoon and one skunk! When I saw someone backing into the drive at the front of the garage, I was able to summon help to find out why these people were walking around on my property. All was well, love this set up!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Customer Service Had problem with one camera not changing from night to day purple image. Through customer service they were going to replace camera thats as far as I got. Called several times still didn't know where to send it or rma number to use. Kept telling me I would get an email. Ended up buying a 2 pack of cameras from bestbuy. System is 2 Years old know and all is well. Thinking of upgrading now to the 1080 systems but wouldn't recommend Night owl only because of customer service plus the extra 100.00 I spent for the 2 camera pak. Camera was defective out of the box

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Repeat Customer This is the third Night Owl security camera / dvr system we've bought. The first one stayed with our house when we sold it, the second one we bought for our new house and this one is an upgrade to an HD system. Every Night Owl product we've owned has been affordable and very reliable. We had problems with vandalism and theft at our old house and once the cameras were installed (along with signs indicating such) it completely stopped. It is also nice to be able to check on our property and pets when we're away from home. The video quality of this HD system is incredible with clear pictures day and night and vivid colors during the day. The only issue we had was one of the cameras, when first installed, was stuck in the night vision mode. We contacted support via online chat and their recommendations to (1) shine a flashlight at the camera and (2) reboot the power to the camera didn't fix it. The support agent was very polite and told us how to get the camera repaired or replaced. But the next day when the sun came up, the camera was working and has been fine since. We have a camera (different one than the one I just mentioned) set up in our garage that we enclosed for our cats and on cloudy days it tends to stay in the night vision mode. The picture is clear though and it isn't really an issue for us. The DVR was very easy to set up for remote viewing. All we needed was a QR code reader app, the Night Owl HD app (both of which are free) and the information from the DVR. In less than five minutes, we were viewing live footage from our phones. The DVR menu is also very easy to use and has been much improved over the other two systems we had. I especially like that even when it's set up to record continously, the motion events are highlighted for easier searching. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and if we ever need a fourth system, it will definitely be a Night Owl.

I brought the 720p HD video 8 channel night through aafes for my mother. My brother was installing the system and couldn't find the remote and mouse. Is there anyway I can purchase a remote and mouse for the system? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Just to confirm that the cables are for the power as the cameras transmit the signal via the DVR? Are there cables longer than 60 feet?

To accomplish installing the cameras at a farther distance from the DVR, we recommend using a passive video balun and a dedicated local power supply for each camera. You can purchase these parts on our web store at http://nightowlsp.com/products/cables-accessories/accessories/a-vb-poe-bnc.html (balun) and http://nightowlsp.com/products/cables-accessories/spare-parts/sp-cam-1500pa.html (power adapter). This method transmits the video through CAT5 cabling, which has a longer run maximum. All Night Owl cable are 24 AWG, and a lower gauge cable will affect performance. When installing the cameras, be aware that using multiple cable runs will also degrade performance so a single run is optimal. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Hello, No, AHD Series DVRs do not have our integrated battery backup technology. You'll need either a different series system ie. the HDA10P-10BU-882-BB or the separate battery backup unit. How far can I go with the Wires to the cameras. is it 60 or 180 ft

Hello, If you install a camera further than 60 ft. from your DVR, Night Owl strongly recommends powering that camera with its own camera power adapter. If you wish to extend a camera beyond 180 ft., Night Owl recommends powering that camera locally (with an outlet closer to camera). As a general rule, cameras utilizing BNC cable can be installed up to 400 ft. from the DVR. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Can wifi USB be added to this?  Our new house doesn't have any wired internet connection.

Hello, No, the system will not work with a wifi USB dongle. A wired Ethernet connection is required for remote viewing capabilities. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Hello! My parents live in a country house in Brazil and they don`t have internet connection back there. I would like to know if the internet access is a must have for the system or not? Can I just use the cctv system without the online features?Thank you

Hello, The system only needs to be connected to a modem/router if you wish to view it remotely on a PC/MAC or a smart device. In order to remotely view your system, you must manually connect an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to the DVR. If you do not want remote viewing, you can simply connect the system to a TV or computer monitor to view live video feed and recordings. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Can an external hard drive be connected for added storage?
