Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to set up and great picture quality I bought this system last week and if you read the directions and watch the Night Owl videos on you tube before you attempt to set up this system it is very easy. The hardest thing was running the wires up in the attic but luckily I have a 24 year old son who did the crawling in the attic. The picture is extremely good and I am glad I opted for the HD 720 P. Connecting the system to my phones and Ipad worked flawlessly as did my wife's android phone. I did have to contact Night Owl because I needed help setting my DVR to record motion only and I opted to use the chat from their web site rather than calling and it was very quick and they walked my right through the process in two minutes. I am so pleased with this system I am headed back to Best Buy to buy two more cameras for the inside. Most reviews on this product are excellent and the ones that are not have to be operator error as this is my first system and it was very easy to set up and manage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I waited about two weeks to wrtie this review to give it an honest shot. So far I am very pleased with my purchase. Bought it on sale which made it even better. It was truly plug and play set up, though you will need sometype of monitor at inital set up and to make major changes such as channel names, picture color, and motion detection aera. 60' of cable was enough for all but one camera and I ran the wires into the ceiling from a closest so they wouldn't be seen. So far I have yet to have any problems with the app and run it on three different devices including iphone, ipad, and andriod. At first I was getting TONS of motion detection messages but I was able to turn it down some and place only the areas I wanted within view to detection motion. We installed three outside and 1 inside and the night and day quality are excellent. So far we are pleased and it has added another level of protection for my family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Setup! From box to working I had this rig setup in just a little over an hour. That was taking time to make sure I followed the steps and watched the how-to videos. DVR software interface is straight forward and easy to use. Excellent night vision and the remote view on my HTC One Android phone is superb. The app automatically disconnects from the router when I leave the house - connects to mobile data, and then back again when I get within range of my router at home. I'm already looking into getting extension lines and four more cameras to max this fella out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Survailence System, and company I purchased the AHD7-841 march 29, received April 2, that was fast. I installed the system when I got home from work around 7:30 pm took a total of maybe 2 1/2 hours, took down 4 nightowl 600 TVL cams and put up the 4 new 702P cams, Configured the DVR, and mobile app (20 minutes) then proceeded to each camera with latter, cell phone, and camera test monitor i hand to adjust the viewing angle of each cam. Done! Holy cow ! the view from these new cams are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I am definitely going to purchase 8 more cameras, 4 to replace the existing 4, and 4 for back ups. I have used other surveillance systems and installed a few such as Defender, Swann, and lorex all junk, I actually threw the swann dvr out the back door on a junk pile destined for the dump. the defender dvr I gutted it and used the chassis for a guitar tube amp project I built. The lorex I gave away. If anyone is looking to invest in a surveillance system, I highly recommend NIGHT OWL, you will not be disappointed. Their customer support, and tech support are the best in the business.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Backup of DVR Files To answer the question of making backups of recordings of the DVR in case of thief of the DVR is to use the HD NightOwl Surveillance Client software on a dedicated PC or Laptop computer. I use an old Acer laptop running XP in a locked and mounted metal box. I have the software set to run on a schedule when not around. They are also battery backed up on the DVR, cameras and laptop in case of power outage. Sin, Night Watchman

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the system but lacking web interface I just bought this system and love it. The configuration was a breeze and dvr is easy to navigate. I have it hidden in my basement so changing configurations is a pain as I have to run to my utility room. The only thing I wish this system had was a web interface so I could change settings from anywhere. Only being able to change settings is from the DVR's own interface is useless when you find out your child stays home from school and the motion sensor sends you emails all day long and you cant stop it. So far the video is excellent HD quality and viewing the recorded events from my phone is very nice. It would be good if the settings were saved on the mobile app. Each time I load it up I have to select the cameras to view. Also instead of Camera 1, 2 etc If the app also referred to the name I changed it to on the DVR that would make it easier to pick the right camera when searching the events. Still just one thing missing, please add a web interface........ I have setup in the past 4 cameras on my own at home in the last 20 years and have also been in charge of our camera systems at work. I'm also in charge of a 140 camera system and have somewhat a professional background. All had a web interface and I'm surprised this one doesn't.

 I now have the f9-dvr8 1tb 8ch  DVR I have all 4 the cameras  (I believe they are the 420 TVL from the Apollo )from the older model dvr those cameras and work on the new DVR however my new 720 P HD cameras are not working with them what is the reason

720P cameras will not be compatible with our F9 DVR. The 720P cameras are HD cameras that are compatible with our AHD, HDA and XHD Series DVRs. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

I'm looking to view a recoding for april.7th 2017. How do I go to the hard drive to see the video for that day? It looks like it has back up filled stored? Also I can only see 2 weeks?

This system comes equipped with a 1TB pre-installed hard drive. When it becomes full, the system is defaulted to automatically overwrite old footage with new recordings. It is possible that the recordings from April 7 (nearly 2 1/2 months ago) have been recorded over with new recordings. Does this thing record audio

The cameras included with this DVR are not audio enabled. However, the DVR does have audio input ports. To connect an audio enabled camera or microphone, please ensure that the audio input port number directly correlates to the audio input port number and that audio is not muted for that channel. How to use the flash drive

Good Afternoon, You can use a USB Flash Drive to backup recordings from your DVR. To do so, please login to your DVR and go to the Record Menu. Within the Events submenu, search for the recordings you would like to backup and then select Quick Backup. I am only using mine on my TV. It will not let me go to the main menu!! It wants the device ID  user and password!! But I've never made one!  I did register it. I cannot check my camera now!! Help!

Does night owl security cameras only record at night?

Good Afternoon, No. Our cameras record during the day and at night. During the day this system will record in full color. At night, the image will switch to black and white. Additionally, you can switch between motion record, 24/7 record and scheduled record. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

We installed this system one year ago. It was working great until two days ago. We can no longer see the cameras. All that appears on the monitor is a large Night Owl logo. The mouse also seems to have died, there is no longer a light on the mouse. Help!

Does this dvr support a ip camera if it does how many

No, this DVR is compatible with our HD Analog cameras and standard analog cameras. IP cameras are a different technology and are paired with NVRs (Network Video Recorders).
