Product Reviews & Questions and Answers

I notice Channels 25-32 are connected to a DB VGA type port.  Is a pigtail provided to connect cameras to this port or is that bought separate?  How do you use channels 25-32?

Asked by: Curtisn
Good Afternoon, This system comes equipped with a 12 Way Video Audio Adapter which allows connectivity to those channels. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

What is the maximum distance of cable that I can run from the DVR to a camera ? Can I make my own cat 6 lines instead of using the supplied cables? Where are the power adapters located for the cameras ?

Asked by: Kevin A
Good Afternoon, If you install your camera further than 60 ft. from your DVR, Night Owl strongly recommends powering that camera with its own camera power adapter. If you wish to extend the camera beyond 180 ft., Night Owl recommends powering that camera locally (with an outlet closer to camera). As a general rule, cameras utilizing BNC cable can be installed up to 400 ft. from the DVR. You can utilize PoE cabling with this system if you purchase a video balun for each camera you wish to use PoE with. When using PoE we still recommend powering the cameras locally with its own power adapter if you extend the camera beyond 240 ft. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Good Afternoon, We do not currently have any videos that will show that. However, on the Features page for the product, we do have numerous images which depict the 900 TVL cameras capability. Your system specs say that the range of the night vision on cameras is 100 ft. Is this limitation based on the camera itself or on the supplied IR light source? If I had supplementary IR light sources would I be able to see clearly at longer distances?

Asked by: Jeba
There are a number of factors that aid in determining the Night Vision distance you will receive with your camera. These factors include: 1) the amount of ambient light in the area the camera is located (more ambient lighting the better), 2) whether the camera is set on a fixed object (camera should not be pointing out into blankness but rather focused on something) and 3) the number of LEDs your camera has (the more LEDs the more Night Vision distance you will receive). The bullet cameras that come with your system provide up to 100 ft. of prime Night Vision under optimal conditions. The dome cameras provide up to 75 ft. The more ambient lighting (street lights, moon light, etc.) in the area the camera is fixed, the better the Night Vision. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

I NEED TO BE ABLE TO PUT SOME OF THESE CAMERAS SEVERAL 100FT AWAY. DO YOU HAVE CABLES LONG ENOUGH TO DO THAT?

Asked by: glenna
we reccomend a max distance of 260ft between camera and DVR. For distances 260 - 1160ft we recommend our Balun adapters with poe cables.
