Product Reviews & Questions and Answers

Wich is better for your systems running aprox 500 ft RG59 OR CAT6

Asked by: cyclops
Good Afternoon, If you are pushing a BNC connected camera 500 ft. out from the DVR, we would recommend purchasing a video balun to convert the BNC connectors to Ethernet, running a single Ethernet cable run and powering that camera locally with its own camera power adapter. Thanks for choosing Night Owl!

What is the maximum distance of cable that can be run that will still work the camera.? Also. Do I have to connect to my router? Will the DVR still record camera activity without the router? Thank you.

Asked by: Dray
If you install a camera further than 60 ft. from your DVR, Night Owl strongly recommends powering that camera with its own camera power adapter. If you wish to extend a camera beyond 180 ft., Night Owl recommends powering that camera locally (with an outlet closer to camera). As a general rule, cameras utilizing BNC cable can be installed up to 400 ft. from the DVR. The system only needs to be connected to a modem/router if you wish to view it remotely on a PC/MAC or a smart device. In order to remotely view your system, you must manually connect an Ethernet cable from your modem/router to the DVR. If you do not want remote viewing, you can simply connect the system to a TV or computer monitor to view live video feed and recordings. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

The pdf link does not show power. For 18 AWG are different connectors & crimpers required? I have about a 300 foot run outside; ambient temperature +20~105F with no direct sun.

can this be used outside? and do the ends need to be put on the cable or can you have that done at the factory?

Asked by: glenna
Yes, this cable can be used outside. Please note that the operating temperature is -40 degrees F to 140 degrees F. Regarding putting the ends on the cable, that is something your would do once you receive it, as only you know how much of the spool you need to use. The process is quite simple though. Please view the following link to see a short PDF of attaching cable ends. Thanks for choosing Night Owl. https://ferrismarketing.box.com/s/3ee7ur9sf39tpzwli100b4zijmncmy89
