Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have started here... I tried a few different options before finishing with this option. I tried couplers to use two cables end to end. There was slight video clarity loss. I tried precut CAT5 along with the adapters and extended the included analog/power cables. Still issues. Finally bought and cut my own cables and had no power or video loss over about 120 feet. Only issue was that CAT5 end caps may not stay clamped. The openings to receive the cable almost needs to be a little smaller to catch the clip for a snug fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cat 5 wiring diagram zapman2000 The wiring diagram comes with the connectors that you buy for the cat5 cable go to lowes, homedepot, or electric supply house. Its a standard wiring diagram same as your computer network. This has nothing to do with night owl they don't sell the connector ends. You can also GOOGLE it there is plenty of free information on the net.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BNC install I purchased 3 packages. All are working very well. My image is the same as the standard wire supplied with the unit. Two are connected with 100' cable and one is connected with a 100' and a 25' extension. Very happy with results. Using the CAT 5 cable in tight spaces worked a little better to snake in longer runs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked without any problems I ordered the connectors with the advice of a friend. They made the installation job easy using Cat5 Cable due to the length of the cables that I had to use. I have purchased 8 for the first part of my installation, I will be purchasing 8 more to complete my other camera's

I saw an answer refer to a ""power pigtail" for Cat5 or Cat6nEthernet cables longer then 60 feet, what is a power pigtail and where can they be purchased?

Asked by: Albanydog
The power "pig tail" is the power connector coming directly out of our hardwired digital IP cameras. It is used for when the camera is extended further out from the NVR. Our Ethernet cable is PoE (Power Over Ethernet). It provides video and power. The power "pig tail" allows for the camera to be powered locally when it is extended further out from the NVR. I purchased at Costco C-841-PIR3MP system. I need to run more than 60'. My question is, can I use the A-VB-POE-BNC adapers and CAT5E cable to run 120'? Will the power source provided, be able to power cameras over Cat5 cable? or do I need SPF-CAMP-15A?

Asked by: Darkside
Dear Customer, Thank you for your very detailed question. the Video balun will allow you to transmit analog signals across a CAT 5 Ethernet cable while providing this video transmission it will also provide power to the camera using the camera AC adapter specific to the cameras model number. Best Regards.

when using Ethernet cable , would CAT6 Ethernet cable 100" create video line loss in the video output .

Asked by: MARK MOORE
When converting BNC to Ethernet, you can use either CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cabling. We recommend using the power pigtail on the camera to locally power any BNC connected cameras that are pushed further than 60 ft. from the DVR. Thanks for choosing Night Owl!
