Rated 5 out of 5 by from cat 5 wiring diagram zapman2000 The wiring diagram comes with the connectors that you buy for the cat5 cable go to lowes, homedepot, or electric supply house. Its a standard wiring diagram same as your computer network. This has nothing to do with night owl they don't sell the connector ends. You can also GOOGLE it there is plenty of free information on the net.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have started here... I tried a few different options before finishing with this option. I tried couplers to use two cables end to end. There was slight video clarity loss. I tried precut CAT5 along with the adapters and extended the included analog/power cables. Still issues. Finally bought and cut my own cables and had no power or video loss over about 120 feet. Only issue was that CAT5 end caps may not stay clamped. The openings to receive the cable almost needs to be a little smaller to catch the clip for a snug fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked without any problems I ordered the connectors with the advice of a friend. They made the installation job easy using Cat5 Cable due to the length of the cables that I had to use. I have purchased 8 for the first part of my installation, I will be purchasing 8 more to complete my other camera's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Products I have installed many of Night Owl's cameras to DVR'S using Cat5E/Cat6 and this balun does not affect the picture quality in the slightest. I highly recommend Night Owl Products for CCTV as everything is user friendly! Thanks, Fernando Mendoza

will this work on 1080P HD system, also i have one camera about 300 feet from the unit will this help to have improved recording

Asked by: hd system
Good Afternoon, Yes, to both questions. Our video balun is compatible with our AHD and HDA DVRs and cameras. Essentially it allows you to convert the BNC connectors to Ethernet, thereby letting you run an Ethernet cable from the camera to the DVR. Ethernet cabling is less susceptible to video degradation and would improve the quality of the recording/live view. Thanks for choosing Night Owl!

Instead of a CAT5 cable, can a CAT6 cable be used?

Asked by: CodyG
Hello, While not tested specifically with CAT6 cable, there should be no issue using it with our systems, although there will be no performance increase. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Dose this make cameras wireless and if so how far away can i take the camrea from the box and do the take battarys and how often do ypu yave to cange them

Asked by: Sykedout
Hello, Our video baluns don't make a camera wireless, rather they're an adapter that converts a BNC connection to a PoE connection so that you achieve longer cable runs, allowing you to mount your cameras further from your DVR. We don't currently have any wireless cameras available but check our web store periodically for updates. Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

Good afternoon. We have received the following reply from our Engineering team: "No, the video balun converter is just a converter from BNC cable to Ethernet cable." Thanks for choosing Night Owl.

What are the length limits for the cat 5e cable on the  "A-VB-POE-BNC"?

Asked by: Timcat
at 200 feet you will have power drop for your camera at 300 feet the video quality will drop. there is no difference in Cat5 and Cat6 except the number of twist per inch on the pairs of wire and is irreverent unless being used for data. no more that 100m is recommended for that.
